What the term means
In traditional Malay medicine, "urut batin" refers to massage associated with reproductive health and inner wellbeing, for both men and women. It's usually done by traditional medicine practitioners, not at spas or reflexology outlets.
Health claims
Many urut batin adverts make claims about fertility or sexual performance. We found no strong scientific evidence for these claims. If you have fertility problems, erectile dysfunction or pain, see a doctor first, since these can be signs of conditions such as diabetes or heart disease.
Practitioner registration
Traditional Malay Medicine is a recognised area under the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Act 2016. Practitioners offering urut batin as treatment must be registered with the T&CM Council, so ask to see their practising certificate before treatment. See the traditional Malay massage guide.
Warning signs
- Adverts that use sexual language or images.
- Bookings only through WhatsApp, with no business name or premises.
- A practitioner who won't show a registration certificate.
- Promises of "guaranteed" or "permanent" results.
A massage involving sexual acts isn't traditional treatment and can involve criminal offences. See adult massage terms.
Why there are no urut batin listings
We haven't been able to verify premises offering urut batin by registered practitioners. We'll add them only when registration and address can be verified.
